Crossfire: Treasure Objects with a Create Number Below 1

2026-08-18

Dear map makers,

(intended audience: Crossfire map makers placing chests and other treasure
objects)

"Why does this chest have a create number of -1? Is my map broken?" The
attribute help for Treasure objects in the Game Object Attributes editor now
answers that question:

1. A <create number> below 1 generates no treasure at all. The contents
are then fixed to whatever inventory the map itself places inside the
   object.
2. -1 is the value the server writes back after a treasure object has
generated once, so it shows up routinely in saved maps and is not an error
   by itself.

NOTE: if <create number> is below 1, make sure the object really does
have inventory in the map. An empty chest tells the player "The chest was
empty." and is then destroyed.

This makes it possible to place a chest with hand-picked contents (instead of
random treasure) on purpose, and to tell such a chest apart from one that has
simply been opened before the map was saved.

The updated help is in the current development version and in the
CrossfireEditor snapshot releases built since then.
