Snapshot Releases of CrossfireEditor Available

2026-10-26

Dear map makers,

(intended audience: Crossfire map makers, and anyone looking for a ready to run
copy of the map editor)

The question we hear most is "Where do I get the map editor without building it
myself?" Snapshot releases of CrossfireEditor (Gridarta for Crossfire) are
available for download on SourceForge:

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/crossfire/files/gridarta-crossfire/

What you will find there:

1. CrossfireEditor.jar - the editor as a single jar file. It runs on any system
with Java 8 or newer: java -jar CrossfireEditor.jar
2. GridartaForCrossfireInstaller-2026-08-31.exe - a Windows installer that
includes its own Java runtime (64-bit Windows only), so no separate Java
   installation is needed.
3. README.md and README-gridartainstaller.md with notes for both.

The same downloads, plus a daily build of the Windows installer (which may
contain experimental or untested features), are linked from the Gridarta page
on the Crossfire website:

    https://crossfire.real-time.com/editors/gridarta/index.html

NOTE: these are snapshots of the current development version, not official
releases. If something does not work, please report it on the gridarta-devel
mailing list.

As for the other editors: DaimoninEditor comes with the Map Maker Package in
the Daimonin downloads (https://www.daimonin.org/downloads/cat/3/), and
AtrinikEditor still has to be compiled from the sources (see "Accessing
Gridarta's Git Repository" on this website).

Happy mapping!
